High Plains Skate Foundation started with a simple idea: Lubbock deserves better skateparks.
We’ve been skating in Lubbock for years. Same spots, same problems, making it work anyway. The parks matter, but they’ve never really kept up with how many people use them or how skating has grown here. So we decided to start doing something about it.
We’re a group of local skaters working to take care of the parks we already have and push for better ones. That means showing up. Cleanups, small fixes, putting time into the spots people actually use. Nothing flashy, just consistent work. At the same time, we’re working toward something bigger.
Lubbock needs real skateparks. Something built right, that can handle the way people actually skate and hold up over time. Not a temporary fix. We’re also not interested in cookie-cutter parks. The goal is to build spots that feel like they belong here; parks with identity, not just poured concrete dropped in a field.
This isn’t a one-time project. It’s something we’re building over time with the people who are already out there skating every day.
We’re starting with what we’ve got and pushing it forward.
Eric Brown: Executive Director
Eric is a Lubbock native who grew up skating Stubbs, One9, and Frankford. He’s been skating for over 20 years, long enough to see those parks go through every phase and still keep coming back.
He’s always been the one pushing himself to get better, staying consistent, and putting in the time. Where some people drift in and out, Eric stuck with it.
He brings a kind of credibility you can’t fake. He’s been here, skating these parks his whole life, and knows exactly what they’ve been and what they could be.
Jordan Wagner: Director of Marketing, Media & Communications (Interim Secretary)
Jordan grew up in many cities and moved here from Austin, but her family is deeply rooted in Lubbock going back four generations. She grew up visiting at least once a month, skating at Stubbs and One9. She fondly remembers driving up with friends to visit Frank when it opened.
Although probably one of the worst skateboarding "lifers" in terms of skill, persevering for nearly 25 years despite being terrible at it is its own type of deep love and dedication.
Board Members
Board members are chosen from HPSF members in good standing. Potential candidates will submit an intention to serve, and their position will be ratified following both a vote of membership and the current Board.
We currently have openings for the following positions:
Director of Community Outreach: Works with local community members and organizations. Our ideal DCO already has experience with local activism or organizing.
-----
Secretary: Jordan is serving as our interim secretary, but as we are quickly taking on projects, serving in both roles will grow to be too much. The secretary position handles all of the paperwork and documentation for the organization, including tracking meeting minutes and filling out city forms.
-----
Program Coordinator: Handles logistics of events and special projects including organizing volunteers and running programs.
-----
Director of Finance: We currently have someone filling our interim Treasurer role, but we need someone to take over this role in the near future. DOF will manage our finances, including donations and grant funds. Experience with finance or even a CPA license is ideal.
-----
Legal Counsel: We will soon be in need of a lawyer, ideally also a member of the org, who can oversee our programs and documents to ensure legal compliance.
